Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.
So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay. When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
But she, for whatever reason, spares Cas's life. "Anna Dressed in Blood" is a 2011 "Kirkus" Best Teen Books of the Year title. One of NPR's Top 5 Young Adult Novels of 2011."

My thoughts

A friend of mine texted me a couple of days back: "You need to get "Anna dressed in blood"! I´m hooked!!" So I grabbed a copy and started reading right away.

I love the cover. You can see a young woman who´s turned her back on you. She´s wearing a white dress and her black hair is blowing in the wind. In the background, you can see a house and all around the girl, there are petals being blown into all directions. I think the colours are the most fascinating part. You feel like being thrown into a horror movie: Gray, white and blood-red. You can feel shivers running down your spine. ;)

Cas is a ghost-hunter. He wants to kill the dead and banish them from the world of the living for good. He is determined to kill all the ghosts on earth because his father was brutally murdered by one. But when he encounters a girl who was killed in 1958 everything changes...

I loved reading about Cas and Anna. They´re very likable characters and I think the intimacy you share with the protagonists is remarkable. You can literally dive into their train of thoughts and their feelings. That´s why reading "Anna dressed in blood" is a book you will hardly ever forget!

As I´ve already mentioned, the intimacy created by Kendare Blake is a rarity. Her style of writing is truly AMAZING! I started reading the book at 8pm and finished at 2am in the morning. I guess, the fluency and authenticity when it comes to writing´s got me hooked. :)

This story is different from anything I´ve ever read. The new ideas and the touch of horror makes it a must-read.

"Anna dressed in blood" is a book I will re-read a couple of times, I suppose. This is not a recommendation, this is an order: Get the book!!! :)
